About me

Hi, I’m Harald an Design Lead with over 15 years of experience.

Designer Vitae

My Story

I completed my studies in product design in 2009. During my studies, I developed a particular interest in sustainable design, the responsible use of resources and the question of how design can contribute to meaningful technological and social transformation. My diploma thesis explored the field of agricultural robotics, addressing the relationship between automation, human work, technological innovation and future-oriented product development.

During this period, I gained international experience at the Milan-based design studio Attivo Creative, now Tatic Design Studio. Working on projects in the fields of sporting goods, kitchen tools and gardening equipment for internationally active brands gave me an early understanding of market-oriented product development, brand-specific design languages and the interaction between cultural context, function and industrial production.

After graduating, I worked in the development department at MAN Truck & Bus, where I contributed to a doctoral research project on the optimisation of the driver’s workplace for long-distance truck drivers. This experience deepened my understanding of ergonomics, user-centred design and the complex relationship between design, technology, research and real working environments.

I subsequently worked as a freelance designer on projects in furniture design, medical design and domestic appliances before joining the design agency Henssler & Schultheiss. There, I worked for clients including FEIN, Endress+Hauser and BYK-Gardner, further developing my experience in technically demanding products for professional and industrial application contexts.

Since 2012, I have been working at loew design, where I have realised numerous products in the fields of road construction machinery, medical devices, tools and electronic equipment. A central part of my work is the development of coherent Design DNAs for product portfolios — translating brand values, technical requirements and user needs into consistent, recognizable and strategically meaningful product languages.

Across these projects, my work has increasingly focused on the intersection of industrial design, technological complexity, product strategy and long-term brand development. This has enabled me to build extensive experience in guiding design processes from initial analysis and conceptual development through to detailed design implementation,

My Approach

My work as a designer is driven by the conviction that products should not be understood as isolated objects, but as meaningful interfaces between people, technology and context. I approach design as a structured yet open process in which observation, analysis, experimentation and critical reflection are closely connected.

At the beginning of my work is the attempt to understand the underlying logic of a product and product systems: its use, its technical conditions, its relationship to related products, and the expectations it creates for the user.

From this understanding, I develop design strategies that translate complexity into clarity, coherence and intuitive interaction. Form, function and usability are not treated as separate categories, but as interdependent aspects of a product’s identity and relevance.

My process combines strategic thinking with a precise sensitivity for proportion, detail, interaction and visual language. I use sketches, models, scenarios, user perspectives and iterative evaluation not as isolated tools, but as instruments to question assumptions, reveal possibilities and sharpen decisions. In this sense, design becomes a method of inquiry as much as a method of creation.

I am particularly interested in how products communicate: how they guide behavior, convey quality, express technological competence and create trust through their presence and use. A successful product should therefore not only work reliably; it should be understandable, meaningful and consistent within its technical, cultural and market-related context.

Responsibility is integral to this approach. Questions of longevity, material logic, production, repairability and ecological impact are part of the design process from the outset. My aim is to create product solutions that are technically feasible, strategically coherent and culturally relevant — products that respond to real needs while contributing to a more thoughtful and responsible understanding of industrial design.

Beyond My Job

I am passionate about nature, sports, music and arts.

Cycling is one of my greatest passions and has been part of my life since early childhood. Over the past three years, I have embraced bikepacking, completing long-distance trips through the Pyrenees, Northern Italy, Southern France, and the Spanish Sierra Nevada.

As a dedicated sports climber for more than 20 years, I have explored numerous climbing crags across Europe. In doing so, I’ve discovered places that remain hidden to many travelers, for which I am very grateful.

I am passionate in making music an played in several bands. After decades of playing the guitar, I switched to drums further expanding my musical creativity.

Another passion of mine is the visual arts. Together with my wife, I run a gallery presenting regional and national artists in four-month exhibition cycles across photography, painting, sculpture and performance.
